I'm all for 'out there' collaborations, the weirder the pairing, the better. The cherry on top is when two brands from unrelated industries combine forces to make amazing products. However, I even raised an eyebrow that the monstrosity that is the KFC x Crocs Clog. A Kentucky Fried Chicken print plastered over the classic Crocs Clog and adorning the famous red and white stripe of Colonel Sanders on the sole.
I get the whole hype of crocs being a variable-ugly adjacent footwear option to traditionally stylish shoes. Or any shoes for that matter. And while the brand has managed to craft a cult following through high profile collaborations and reinventing the crocs core style. But this just feels a few years to later for the Crocs hype wagon.
The Cros x KFC is a celebration of KFC signature fried item, Kentucky Fried Chicken. And they really went all-in on the Kentucky Fried Chicken iconography. The clogs come with a gem formed in the image of the famed fried chicken. And to drive home the love for the iconic brand they scented the gem in the smell of chicken frying in eleven herbs and spices.
I neither thought I would anyone would want their feet associated with the smell of greasy chicken. But this is 2020, so why not add one more blunder to the dumbest fire that is this year.
While I don't believe these little monster should have either left the Crocs design studio. Cough cough if we can call it that. The brand does do an excellent job of remaining in focus, this mishap has all media outlets promoting its release. Myself included.
If you feel the urge to walk around smelling like the regret of a late-night drunken feast you make at 2 am and highly intoxicated. The Cros x KFC clogs are available at Stockx. Who knows, they may become a collectable reminder of the shit storm that is 2020.
